Bubble tea review: Mochikva, Tel Aviv

Before there was Tea Wei, the best bubble tea in Israel came from Mochikva

Before there was Tea Wei, the best bubble tea in Israel came from Mochikva, another small and independent outlet, this time on Ben Yehuda Street in Tel Aviv. It’s still going strong, with friendly service from the British owner.

Its milk teas are more strongly-flavoured than in Asia, but to this Western palate that’s not necessarily a bad thing. My favourite flavour, taro, is available, unlike at Tea Wei.

The real strength of Mochikva, as the name indicates, is actually its mochis, which are unequivocally the best in Israel. As far as I know, it’s the only place in Israel where they are handmade on-site. They contain generous amounts of inventive fillings, and the mochi skin is just the right chewy but bouncy texture required. Top marks for your mochis, Mochikva! Mention them more on your social media!?
